Commercial work is different from residential work from the first hour on site. There are more doors, more blind spots and more people moving through the building, and there is almost always a specific reason the system is going in — shrinkage, a liability claim, an insurance requirement, or something that happened in the parking lot. That reason should decide where the cameras point. We would rather ask what you need to be able to see than sell you a camera count.

Camera systems for offices, retail, warehouses and churches

Offices usually need coverage at the entries, reception, the server and comms room, and any door that sits unlocked through the working day. Most of the value here is accountability rather than dramatic footage: who came in the side door at 6am, who propped the fire exit, who was at the copier when the cash box went missing. Interior cameras have to be discreet enough that staff are not working under a spotlight, and the recorder needs to live somewhere lockable.

Retail is about points of sale, the stockroom, the back door and the aisles where product actually walks. Placement matters far more than headline resolution — a 4K camera aimed at a ceiling tile tells you nothing. We site cameras so faces are captured at the door at head height, so the till drawer is in frame with the cashier, and so the loading door has a clean view of what leaves on a pallet jack.

Warehouses bring distance and light problems that residential jobs never do. Loading docks, yard gates, racking aisles and mezzanines all want different lenses, and the difference between a readable plate at a dock door and a white blur is almost always lens choice and mounting height, not the price of the camera. Long runs also mean planning switch locations properly instead of stretching Cat6 past its limit and hoping.

Churches have their own pattern: a large open sanctuary, a children’s wing that needs controlled access, a car park that fills and empties in twenty minutes, and volunteers rather than security staff running the building. Systems here have to be simple enough that whoever is on duty on a Sunday morning can pull a clip without a training course, and the children’s area has to be handled with some care about what is recorded and who can view it.

PoE and NVR at commercial scale

Nearly everything we install commercially is Power over Ethernet on Cat6 back to a managed switch and a network video recorder you own outright. At commercial scale that means sizing the PoE budget rather than counting ports, allowing PoE+ headroom for PTZ heads and heated housings, putting the recorder and the switch on a UPS so a flicker does not corrupt a drive, and specifying surveillance-rated drives with room to spare.

Retention is arithmetic, not a marketing number. Camera count multiplied by bitrate multiplied by the days you actually need is what decides drive size, and we would rather tell you that thirty days across twenty-four cameras needs real storage than sell you a box that quietly overwrites in nine days. We label the patch panel, keep cameras on their own VLAN where the network can support it, and set up remote viewing without punching holes in your firewall.

Access control and entry management

Cameras tell you what happened; access control decides whether it happens at all. We fit card and fob readers, keypads and mobile credentials on commercial entries, with maglocks or electric strikes chosen to suit the door and the fire strategy, request-to-exit hardware where it is required, and door schedules so the front entry unlocks at opening and secures itself at close. When a member of staff leaves you revoke a credential instead of rekeying the building, and every badge event is logged with a matching camera clip. Doorbell and intercom for front offices

Plenty of commercial front doors stay locked all day, which is sensible until a delivery driver or a client is standing outside with no way in. A doorbell camera or intercom at the front office lets whoever is at the desk see and speak to the visitor and release the door without walking the corridor.
